Richmond, VA - A last attempt to get reparations for victims of forced sterilization in Virginia was tabled Thursday in the General Assembly.
Delegate Bob Marshall asked for a budget amendment to allow $1 million to be given to victims of Virginia's eugenic practices.
The request was tabled by legislators and victims were told to go through a state claims process. But a spokesperson for the victims says the state requires people wronged by the state to file a claim within a certain number of years.
Eugenics victims, who were sterilized from 1924 to 1979, have missed that deadline.
