Danville to Hold Public Forum on Parking Wed.

Posted:

Danville, VA - Danville City officials are now taking steps to try to improve parking downtown, and they are asking for the public's help. This Wednesday, they'll hold a public forum to let citizens share their concerns about parking.

City officials will also introduce an outline for a new parking study for the River District.

"With parking, hopefully more people will be more likely to come down, you know, go to places," David Amick said.

"My only concern is parking, if you want the community to come to the restaurants, we need to have somewhere to park," said Mildred Richardson.

"During the weekdays though, it's two hours parking. People who work downtown they don't get time to stay in their businesses they always have to come out and constantly check their vehicles, just to move them, I mean, that's just a hassle, I mean I work downtown and that's what I have to do all the time," Roger Tutton said.

Many in Danville say they just want the parking issue resolved one way or the other.

"For workers, I think they should at least have some part of downtown where people can just park. And for people that aren't downtown that long can actually use the two hour parking," Tutton said.

Mildred Richardson, "It's important for this space right here to be utilized, if not all, partially for parking."

David Amick, "Obviously right now, it's a little bIt in progress, but I'm sure once it's done , it'll be great, I'm really looking forward to it because there's so much potential down here."

The city has hired Land Planning and Design Associates to conduct the parking study. They are the same consulting firm that designed the River District streetscape project.

The public forum will be on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at the Danville City Municipal Building.
