Pittsylvania Co. Schools Pushing for Pay Raises

Posted:

Pittsylvania Co, VA - The Pittsylvania County School Board is making pay raises their top budget priority.

School Superintendent James McDaniel says they want to give a two percent raise to all their employees. McDaniel says the raise will cost $1.1 million.

Most of the money will come from designated funds from the Governor's budget proposal.

In order to give a raise to all their employees and not just teachers, the school system will need an extra $350,000 thousand from the county.

"We continually score above the state averages in many of our areas that we have to be compared to, the assessments that come our way. Our employees are very professional, they deserve a raise, and I hope that we'll be able to provide that to them," McDaniel said.

McDaniel says it's been four years since anyone in the school system has gotten a raise.
