Escaped Vinita Inmate Arrested in West Tulsa with Girlfriend
Tulsa, Oklahoma -
The man who escaped from a correctional facility in Vinita was taken into custody Wednesday evening after he was found at his former stepdaughter-now-girlfriend's residence.
James Maxwell, 49, was taken into custody by the Northern Oklahoma Violent Crimes Task Force near 4500 Gilcrease Expressway. Stephanie Starr, his girlfriend, was also arrested by Tulsa Police.
According to the task force, officers obtained information that led them to Starr's apartment complex where they had been staying. They were able to confirm the reports when Maxwell and Starr left the apartment and go into a red Dodge truck.
Police followed the vehicle and were able to arrest both. During the arrest they found a firearm in the vehicle and marijuana.
Maxwell had been incarcerated for assault and battery on a police officer at the Northeast Correctional Center in Vinita. Starr's was arrested on charges of harboring a fugitive and possession of a firearm.
