Danville, VA - Can you think of a better day for a wedding than Valentine's Day? Well, neither can a lot of couples in Danville. Every year, Ben David Jewelers hosts weddings and vow renewals on Valentine's Day for free.
Eight couples signed up for ceremonies throughout the day. While this is one of the busiest days of the year for jewelry stores, Ben David Jewelers says it is important for them to make time for this.
It's a day to always remember filled with happiness, loved ones, and a crowded jewelry store?
While it may be unconventional, couples like Tiemeyer and Rachel Thompson found their wedding to be perfect.
"Just the look on her face seeing that tears were starting to come," said Tiemeyer Thompson.
In fact, they got their marriage license just hours before tying the knot.
"Got our marriage license then she come up with the idea of us go by Ben David's. Here we are!" said Thompson.
"We just feel like it is a great way to connect with the community," said Stephanie Mitchen, Operations Sales Manager.
Mitchen says they love doing this service. They supply the pastor, flowers, wedding cake, and photographer all free of charge.
"Especially with the hard economic times that some people are having right now, it really is truly a blessing for those," said Mitchen.
While Cecil and Ruth Coles loved the goodies at their ceremony, he had his own highlight, the kiss. After 46 years of marriage, the Coles fulfilled a dream to renew their vows.
"It seemed exciting. We didn't have a big wedding when we got married," said Ruth Coles.
And he has some advice for the new grooms.
"My secret to the men is let her do the fuss and you go outdoors somewhere," said Cecil Coles.
This is the seventh year that Ben David has been doing these ceremonies, and they plan to keep up the tradition. They say a bonus is that often the couples are customers for life.
