Lynchburg, VA - Despite warm temperatures Friday, an arctic blast of colder air is moving into the ABC 13 Viewing Area Friday Night on gusty winds from the west, along with an area of rain turning over to snow along the front.

Behind the actual cold front, the jet stream - a river of air way up in the sky - will be diving southward across the south and then back up the coast. Many computer models try to develop an actual storm system along the front, which will be at or along the coast Saturday.

As the low rides the front to our east Saturday, it will ring out moisture in the form of areas of snow. Since the front will be to the east, it's not out of the question that eastern Virginia gets more significant snow than our area Saturday.

What snow that does fall Saturday will be fluffy and dry, so it may not take a lot of moisture to make for some accumulations... generally a coating for most, with up to 1-2" under some of the heavier bands.

At this time, we are not looking at a huge storm system.

Still, it appears there will be enough robust snow showers around into Saturday, that a few places will see at least some accumulations as the temperatures cool.

Wind will also be an issue this weekend, as the colder air moves in, gusting over 15-30 mph at times.

Stay with ABC 13 and the ABC 13 Weather Experts for the latest on the forecast.

This forecast is subject to change, depending on the exact track of the low and where the front stalls once it crosses our area tonight.
