Virginia University of Lynchburg Celebrates Black History Month

Lynchburg, VA - Singing, music, and a motivational speaker, were all a part of Virginia University of Lynchburg's celebration of black history Tuesday.

The Soulsters, a gospel group from Lynchburg's Diamond Hill Baptist Church, were the featured performers at Tuesday's convocation.

Once a week during February, the school is celebrating black history, with special guest performances featuring drama, music and dance.

School officials say black culture, in particular, the arts, is an important part of black history that they wanted to share with students.

"The African American culture is so rich and we have to pass on that tradition and history to the next generation" said event organizer, Delbert Jones.

VUL is hosting two more performances next week, and capping off the month long celebration with a soul food luncheon.
