Bedford Co., VA – Repair work is now underway on a private road in Blue Ridge that washed out late last month, leaving neighbors stranded.
Haymes Brothers, a Chatham construction firm, is installing a new pipe and building the road free of charge. Boxley is donating 600 tons of stone and RLJ Thompson Trucking is hauling the stone to the site on Meadowlark Road at no cost to the neighbors.
"They're going to go ahead, forward with it, knowing we don't have the money yet," said Del Sprinkel, road committee treasurer. "They're supplying so much of it. They're supplying the labor. The only thing we have to do is buy some materials."
The neighbors are responsible for only $9,000, the cost of the pipe.
There is a fund set up to help neighbors pay for the pipe. Checks should be made payable to Oak Crest Hills Road Fund.
