Lynchburg - The Virginia High School League State Basketball Championships begin Tuesday for area teams at VCU's Siegel Center in Richmond.
Tuesday night, the Salem boys face Potomac Falls at 9. The Bassett girls meet Courtland at 7.
Wednesday, weather permitting, E.C. Glass faces Grafton at 12:45. That's after the Salem and Loudoun County girls at 11.
Saturday night's win over Carroll County puts E.C. Glass in the Final Four for the first time in 46 years, when the Hilltoppers beat Hampton in overtime to win the 1967 state championship. Tuesday at 1:45 at Glass, some members of that '67 team will help send off this year's team in a pep rally at Glass.
Roy Roberson, E.C. GLASS HEAD COACH, said "We're having some of the old-timers come back and I'm sure they probably don't appreciate me referring to 'em as old-timers. But that's exciting that here we are kind of restoring the tradition that Jimmie Bryan and some of those guys laid."
Jermaine Mayo, E.C. GLASS JUNIOR POINT GUARD, said "It's really big for us. Most high school teams are at baseball season right now and we're still playing basketball. So that's a great feeling."
