Bedford Co. Needs EMT Volunteers

Posted:

Bedford Co., VA - Bedford County needs more volunteers to answer the call so rescue squads can respond to emergency calls as quickly as possible.

The county's 12 volunteer agencies have taken a hit in this economy, with many squad members taking second jobs and running fewer calls. That sometimes means calls are turned over to other squads, a problem in a county as large as Bedford.

"We have ambulances driving across the county," said Chief Jack Jones Jr., with Bedford County Fire and Rescue. "They know that they're not doing their best for the citizens and the community."

To help get the numbers up the county is holding a volunteer EMT academy.

Classes are Tuesdays, Thursdays and some Saturdays March through June at the department's educational complex.

Call (540) 587-0700 to sign up.
