Altavista Girls Join Boys in State Championship Game

RICHMOND - The Altavista girls team joined their boys and will play for a Division 1 state championship Friday at VCU's Siegel Center.

In a game that featured a combined 54 turnovers (30 for Altavista), the Colonels overcame that fact by making 42 of their 55 free throws.

The Colonels only made 8 of their 27 attempts from the floor.

ABC 13 First Team All-Full Court Press candidate Sydney Morris scored 17 points and grabbed six rebounds for Altavista. Takara Dews scored all 16 of her points from the free throw line.

Altavista will play East Rockingham Friday at 2 p.m. in the state championship game. The two teams met in the Region B championship with East Rockingham winning easily.
