Altavista, VA - The pride is hung in the hall for everyone to see. Article after article tracking the Altavista Colonels boys and girls basketball teams through an astounding season. Assistant Principal Missy Beckford is just tickled her boys and girls made it all the way to Richmond.

At Altavista Combined School, Colonel spirit is sprinkled around every corner. Some have left Altavista to cheer on their team. And, believe it or not...the school is cool with that.

"I think it's important that our kids know that their family is there behind them," said Altavista Middle School Assistant Principal Missy Beckford. The teams getting this far is exciting, but Altavista has been here before.

Assistant Principal Jason Kilbourne proudly shows us an old headline...the first time the boys and girls went to states...even won the whole thing. "We got to experience that in 2004, which is totally awesome. To be able to do that again this year is great as well," said Altavista High School Assistant Principal Jason Kilbourne.

"Our people going everywhere. They truly follow their teams," said Beckford. In fact, the entire town's jumping on board.

Down the street at Main Street Cafe and Coffee. The basketball team gets its own sandwich. It's chicken, cheese. And just like the teams it is honor of... it's also got a side kick. "It's got a little bit of spice to it, kinda like the basketball team," said Altavista 2011 Graduate Stephen Mattox.

There was good news and bad news Friday for Altavista. The boys team won the title over West Point 80-62, while the girls lost to East Rockingham 35-31.
