Spencer, VA-- St. Patrick's Day may not be until next weekend, but some folks in the Southside are already preparing to celebrate.
Dozens got together on Saturday at the Spencer-Penn Centre to learn more about the holiday and to cook an authentic St. Patrick's Day feast.
Chef Kris Landrum taught the crowd how to make Irish stew, soda bread and red clover tea. They also explored the history of St. Patrick's day. They talked about how it was originally celebrated as a religious holiday, because St. Patrick brought Christianity to Ireland.
"We all enjoy it as another day to celebrate," said Landrum. "Everybody is Irish on St. Patrick's Day aren't we? And we thought it would be fun to talk about the history of St Patrick's day and where it came from."
