RICHMOND - The Floyd County High School colors of black, white, and gold fit in nicely on VCU's home court. With a strong presence of fans that made the long journey to the state capital, it may have felt like a home game.
The girls basketball team made it seem that way, completing an impressive season with a 72-62 Division 2 state championship game in over Central-Wise.
It's the program's fourth state title (2013, 2008, 1994, 1993).
The Lady Buffaloes trailed 21-17 after the first quarter and then took charge in the second quarter, outscoring Central 19-4 to lead by 11 at the half.
Amanda Hollandsworth scored 26 points and had 10 rebounds in the victory. She was 10 of 13 from the floor and 6 of 7 from the line. Christene Phillips added 19 points.
Floyd County was only 16 of 32 from the free throw line but did enough damage from the floor.
Central was led by an impressive duo of Hayley Wyrick (22 points) and Logan Reynolds (13). Reynolds is just a sophomore.
Both teams finished with 28-2 records.
