Danville,VA-- If your morning commute involves going through downtown Danville, listen up, there'll be more traffic than usual this week.
The City of Danville recently sent out a press release saying there will be detours, restricted travel, and less parking.
The 300 block of Main Street has been under construction for a while now, but starting Monday, March 11, travel on that block will be restricted to just one lane.
Drivers going northbound toward the river will be detoured onto Market Street toward Spring Street. People driving away from the river will use the one lane that will remain open on Main Street. This is all to allow crews to install a manhole, repair some sewer lines and put in some new crosswalks.
"Despite all the inconvenience with the travel along main street and the parking along Main Street, in the end it's going to be a beautiful project, a project that all residents can enjoy and appreciate," said Arnold Hendrix, Danville City Public Information Officer.
Two-way traffic will be back by the following week. Hendrix also said construction of the first phase of the Streetscape project will rounding up this summer with the 400 and 500 block of Main Street. The second phase will also be starting this summer, which includes the installation of a new fountain near the intersection of Memorial Drive and Craghead Street.
