Big South Champ LU Men Return Home

Lynchburg - The Big South Tournament champions, the Liberty men and women, returned home Monday from Conway, South Carolina.

The Flames men rolled into campus around 8:15 Monday night.  What a week for them, pulling four straight upsets in six days en route to their first Big South championship in nine years, just their third in history.  This is a team that started the year 0-and-8, just the second team in NCAA history to have 20 losses and make the Big Dance.

Dale Layer, FLAMES HEAD COACH, said "There's nothing like seeing these guys hoist the championship trophy over their heads and being interviewed by the media and hugging each other and praying in the lockerroom.  Those are experiences that none of us will ever forget.  It'll be indelibly stamped on our hearts and minds."

Davon Marshall, FLAMES JUNIOR GUARD (TOURNEY MVP), said "I felt like we just played for each harder.  You know we had a senior on the team, Trap, we didn't want him to go out without a win.  So we just played for each other and kept playing hard."

J.R. Coronado, FLAMES JUNIOR FORWARD, said "It was a big celebration and, you know, something that I always dreamed about."
