Officials with the Department of Defense identified the name of an Edmond soldier shot and killed in combat on patrol in Afghanistan.
Rex Schad, 26, was a squad leader on deployment with the Third Infantry Division out of Ft. Stewart in Georgia. Schad's family live in Edmond, just north of Oklahoma City.
According to the release, Schad and another soldier died March 11 in Jalrez District, Afghanistan. Both sustained injuries when they were attacked by small arms fire.
The other soldier killed in the combat was 28-year-old Andrew Pedersen-Keel. He was from South Miami, Florida. No other information was given in the release.
