Forest - Jefferson Forest broke a 1-all tie in the third, scoring nine runs en route to a 10-1 season-opening win over Staunton River in high school baseball action Thursday night at Forest Middle School.

JF's Zach Duff broke the 1-all tie with an rbi single to right to make it 2-1.  The Golden Eagles then had a great chance to get out of the inning on a double play ball to short.  They got the force at second, but the relay throw to first was low and Collin Watkins was unable to hang on.  JF scored on that play, then added seven more runs with two outs to break the game wide open.

The Cavaliers banged out 14 hits to 7 for Staunton River.  Nate Williamson threw the first three innings for JF, yielding one run, two hits and striking out 4.  JF used five pitchers for the game.
