
Lynchburg - Catcher Trey Wimmer homered and drove in three runs, helping propel the Liberty Flames past Charleston Southern 8-2 Friday in the Big South Conference opener for both teams at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
Wimmer posted his fifth consecutive game with two hits. The senior also has also collected a hit in each of his last six games. The Liberty catcher had a run-scoring single in the first inning and drove in two runs with his second home run of the year in the third inning.
Liberty opens Big South play with a 1-0 record and moves to 12-6 overall. Charleston Southern drops to 0-1 in the Big South and 8-11 overall.
Charleston Southern and Liberty will meet in the middle game of their three-game Big South series Saturday, first pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
