Tony Stewart Visits Martinsville

Martinsville, VA -- One of the biggest names in NASCAR stopped by the Martinsville Speedway Wednesday. Tony Stewart spoke with the local Chamber of Commerce about owning a team.

He says things have changed in terms of how teams are handled over the past few years. And credits his abilities to learning from Joe Gibbs. But Stewart said the most important thing is to have the right people working in the right place.

Wednesday, Stewart got to go inside one of the suites at the track and he said he's never been able to have that view of Martinsville. He says Martinsville is one of his favorite cities on the circuit to visit because there is so much history, so it removes some of the corporate NASCAR feel.

"There is one thing in the atmosphere here and the feel of the racetrack hasn't changed because of that. You still have the corporate aspect of that but at the same time when it is down in the pit area and down on the racetrack it still has that grassroots feel and that is something that is hard to balance out," said Stewart.

Stewart says he's also noticed more people coming out to the races, which he says is a good sign the economy is bouncing back a bit.
