Snow Makes for Treacherous Travel in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Snow made traveling a headache for many in Lynchburg on Sunday.

Flights at Lynchburg Regional Airport were canceled; cars were stopped on the side of the road.

The calendar may say spring, but if you were outside for a second Sunday, you saw, it was still very much winter.

And it made getting anywhere a nightmare for folks in the Hill City.

Planes, trains, and automobiles all brought to a halt, with early spring snow in the Hill City.

Driving proved to be treacherous.

"So far, it's been pretty nasty, I've seen cars sliding off the road" said driver Glen McGowen.

McGowen struggled through the storm on his way to work.

"As you can see it's still coming down pretty bad so probably not a good idea to be driving today" he said.

At Lynchburg's Regional Airport, "1432 with service to Charlotte, your flight has just been canceled" announced an airport employee over the loud speaker.

With a snow coated runway, flights were canceled, planes were unable to land.

A frenzy of phone calls to loved ones, canceling plans.

"Now I've just got to wait till tomorrow. They have another flight going later tonight, but they don't think it's going to be able to fly out so I just asked them to book it for tomorrow" said passenger Jamie Jackson.

But at Lynchburg's Amtrak Station, a different scenario, "The ride was fine. No delays for weather" said one passenger.

The snow stopped, the platform cleared, and ready for passengers, and actually, somewhat of a nicer ride for train travelers.

"We did, it was beautiful on the way in" said one woman of watching the snow fall during her ride.

The roads became clear as the night went on.

But drivers beware; as temperatures drop into the night, they could freeze over, making for a messy morning commute.
