A five hour standoff that began after a man threatened his family and police with a hatchet ended peacefully Sunday afternoon.

Police were called to a home in north Tulsa near 52nd Place North and Frankfort Avenue around 3 p.m. Sunday, Tulsa Police Captain Dave Roberts said.

Darin Bunch, 38, got into an altercation with a relative and threatened other family members with a hatchet, Roberts said.

When officers made contact with Bunch threatened them with the hatchet as well and then barricaded himself in a room inside the home for almost five hours, Roberts said.

Because Bunch was being uncooperative, police decided to call in the SWAT team.

“We put a lot of manpower into it, spent a lot of time on it but our goal was that we take him into custody without hurting him and we were able to do that," Roberts said.

Bunch remained in the Tulsa County Jail on Monday morning. He is being held on complaints of assault with a deadly weapon and resisting arrest.
