Update: Fire Officials Say Cause of Fire in Lynchburg Home Was Accidental

Update 11:15 a.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg fire officials say the fire at a home overnight was an accident - likely caused by a cigarette left on the front porch.

Crews were called to the 1000 block of Pierce Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday.

Witnesses say that the largest part of the fire was on the roof but the flames also spread to the second floor porch and the first floor.

Neighbors say the three people who live in the house were able to get out.

The home has been condemned and the Red Cross will be assisting the people who were in the home.

Lynchburg, VA - The Red Cross is assisting several people after a home in Lynchburg caught on fire.

Crews were called to the 1000 block of Pierce Street just before 1 a.m. Wednesday morning. 

Witnesses tell ABC 13 that the largest part of the fire was on the roof but the flames also spread to the second floor porch. 

Neighbors say those who lived in the house were able to get out.

The Lynchburg Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire.
