Update: Water Back On at Roanoke Regional Airport

Update: 10:00 a.m.:

Roanoke Regional Airport reports that the water is back on as of 9:00 p.m. Wednesday and all operations at the airport are back to normal.

----------------------------------------

Roanoke, VA - A water main break near Roanoke Regional Airport cut off the water in the building, including the terminal.

That meant no toilet flushing, no water fountains and no cooking by the restaurant inside.

Around 1:30 p.m., officials say concourse restrooms and upper level east end restrooms were operational again via non-potable water being pumped into the building.

The water break happened around noon Wednesday at the intersection of Town Square Boulevard and Aviation Drive.

The Western Virginia Water Authority says it most likely will be between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Wednesday when that water is restored. Crews are on the scene as of 4 p.m., working to repair a 12 inch water line.

At last check, they were waiting on the final "ok" from underground utilities who are marking lines before their crews can go in, dig, and repair the break.

A few other neighboring businesses were impacted as well.

Officials say some have reduced water pressure, but the airport is the only place that lost water completely. Officials say they are working to make sure all their passengers are as comfortable as possible.

"Our instant command is set up and our maintenance crew is working on getting a water supply pumped into the bathrooms so passengers can at least use the facilities and getting our water bottles out to the passengers," said Amanda DeHaven, marketing and communications coordinator for the Roanoke Regional Airport Commission.

The airport says this has happened a few of times over the past year but they are confident crews will get it fixed as soon as possible.
