Del. Scott Garrett Votes For Governor's Abortion Amendment

Lynchburg, VA - State lawmakers wrapped up a busy one-day session to vote on Governor McDonnell's proposed amendments and vetoes, Wednesday.

Lynchburg Delegate Scott Garrett approved an amendment that would deny abortion coverage to people who buy policies through Virginia's federally-funded health insurance exchange; as a part of the affordable care act.

The amendment passed easily in the republican held House of Delegates.

Garrett was passionate about passing the amendment, which he says, aims to restrict any tax payer money from going directly to funding an abortion.

"This was a small step and a way of trying to affirm that our values do matter, and the over reach that the federal government is imposing upon us is not tolerable" said Garrett.

The General Assembly also approved the Governor's amendments to the transportation funding reform bill and an amendment to cut the texting while driving fines in half.
