Lynchburg, VA – A Lynchburg police officer is in stable condition after authorities say he was shot late Wednesday night.

Chief Parks Snead says police were executing a drug-related search warrant at the McCausland Ridge Apartments on Langhorne Road about 10:40 p.m.  Snead says one suspect ran from police.

"Officers pursued a suspect who fled the scene on foot.  During this pursuit, a Lynchburg police officer received a non-life threatening, single gunshot wound," said Snead.

The injured officer was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital where officials say he's in stable condition.

Snead says they're not looking for any suspects involved in the shooting.  He wouldn't release any details about how the officer was wounded.

Three people were taken from the scene in handcuffs.  It's unclear if they are directly involved in this incident.

For residents in the neighborhood, it was a lot of action in their normally quiet community.

"To hear about it, I mean, you don't think that's going to hit right here next to you.  It's one thing to hear about it somewhere else, but when it's right there at you, it's a different story," said a McCausland Ridge resident.
