Bell Outshines QB Competition In Sooners' Spring Game
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -
Blake Bell threw for 213 yards and two touchdowns in Oklahoma's spring game Saturday for the best performance of the three candidates trying to become the next starting quarterback.
Bell, a junior, scrambled and threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Durron Neal in the second quarter of the scrimmage and later added a score on a short pass that running back Roy Finch turned into a 49-yard TD. However, Bell took a sack and got hit as he threw on the final play as his attempt at a game-winning drive failed.
Sophomore Kendal Thompson threw for 151 yards and a 14-yard touchdown lob to David Smith that provided the White team a 28-24 victory.
Redshirt freshman Trevor Knight threw for 86 yards and a touchdown, but also fumbled a snap that resulted in a defensive score.
