Lynchburg - Designated hitter Danny Grauer and center fielder Ryan Cordell each hit two-run homers, helping Liberty beat Old Dominion 6-2 Tuesday night at Liberty Baseball Stadium.
Grauer hit his fourth homer of the year with one aboard in the third and scored three runs for the game. Top of the 8th, LU up 4-2, Flames shortstop Dalton Britt made a nice back-handed stab and long throw to nail Jordan Negrini at first.
The Monarchs threatened in the eighth with back-to-back hits but LU's Josh Richardson worked out of the jam.
Then after Grauer reached on an error, Cordell launched one to the bullpen in left for a two-run shot to increase the Flames' lead to 6-2.
Cordell finished the night with two hits and four RBI's.
Liberty moves to 20-18 on the year. With the win, the Flames improve to 15-5 in their new home, Liberty Baseball Stadium. Old Dominion drops to 18-17 overall.
LU steps back into Big South Conference play next with a three-game home series with Winthrop this weekend. The series gets underway on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
