Funeral planned for 10-year-old Calera boy struck and killed by vehicle Wednesday

The 10-year-old boy hit by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon in Shelby County died from injuries sustained in the accident.

Zaryn Chancey Stewart, of Calera, was killed after being struck by a mini-van while standing on the side of Highway 25 at 4:25 p.m.

Funeral services for Stewart will held Saturday at 4 p.m. at Bolton Funeral Home in Columbiana. A visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 2 p.m.

An obituary on the funeral home's website states that Stewart was a student at Elvin Hill Elementary School and is survived by his mother, Lacey Chancey, father, Samuel Stewart, and his guardians Brian and Rachel Bell, the victim's uncle and aunt.

Alabama State Troopers continue to investigate the accident. No word yet if any charges will be filed against the driver of the mini-van.
