Train Engine Catches Fire in Lynchburg, Under Control

Update 5:06 p.m.:

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg firefighters say the train engine fire that started Wednesday afternoon is completely out.

Battalion Chief Jason D. Campbell with the Lynchburg Fire Department says it took firefighters about 15 minutes to put the fire out.

He says the CSX train was going eastbound when fire started. It was contained to the second engine compartment of the locomotive.

Firefighters say about 150 gallons of fuel spilled out of the train. They are building a dam to prevent the fuel from spreading.

The say there is no threat to the city's water.

Lynchburg, VA- Lynchburg Firefighters are on the scene of a train engine fire Wednesday afternoon.

Crews got the call around 4 p.m. about the fire near Hydro Street, off Reusens Road.

They say it happened on the second engine of a CSX train.
