Americans Eating Less Added Sugar

Posted:

Americans are not consuming as much sugar, but are still having more than what the American Heart Association recommends.

New government statistics out Wednesday show men have about 335 calories a day from added sugars - women have about 239.

Added sugars include all sugars in prepared and processed food and beverages - like desserts.

About 13 % of adults' daily calories come from added sugars.

The single biggest contributor of added sugars is regular soda.

The American Heart Association recommends men get about nine teaspoons of added sugar a day, women six.
