Reaction to Quilt Controversy in Martinsville

Posted:

Martinsville, VA - The Martinsville councilwoman at the center of controversy over a quilt has issued a statement about the whole incident.

Sharon Brooks Hodge apologized for her actions in the council meeting last month, saying in part "I do agree with the community consensus that my remarks to students were not delivered in the most ideal manner."

Hodge said in that meeting that she was offended by a quilt created by the Piedmont Governor's School, which depicted the image of a black person in what she felt was a negative light.

The quilt was supposed to be displayed in the municipal building, but whether that will happen is still up in the air.
