High School Scores and Highlights - Friday

GIRLS SOCCER

Appomattox (11-1-1, 5-0) won a home game 3-1 over Nelson County to remain in first place in the Dogwood District. Patricia Garrett had two goals and Emily Welch had the other goal for the Lady Raiders.

E.C. Glass defeated LCA 2-1 in double overtime. Brooke Valentine scored the game-winner and Alex Royer had the other goal for the Hilltoppers.

Chatham and Altavista tied 3-3 in overtime. Scoring for the Colonels was Emma Green assisted by Cara Mattox. Altavista's second goal was scored by Megan Wilkes assisted by Chelsea Robinson. Altavista's final goal was scored by Cara Mattox and assisted by Emma Green.

 

BOYS SOCCER

Appomattox (8-3-1, 4-1-1) and Nelson County tied 2-2 in overtime. Nathan Gilliam and Austin Vaughan each scored for Appomattox. With the tie, Nelson remains in first place in the Dogwood District.

Jefferson Forest (8-2-3) shutout Liberty 6-0 in Bedford. David Heimer and Matthew Crider each scored two goals.

 

BASEBALL

Chatham (8-7) beat Altavista (2-12) 7-3. Andrew Lancaster had a two-run home run for Chatham. Travis Yeatts had a solo home run for Altavista.

Rustburg run-ruled Heritage 12-0 in 5 innings.

Amherst County stayed unbeaten, improving to 15-0 with a 4-2 win over Brookville.  Logan Pingley went 3-for-3, including a homer and double.  Nathan Trevillian won on the mound, he's now 6-0.

Jon Ryan Breeden threw a five-hit shutout as Jefferson Forest won at Liberty 4-0.

 

GIRLS LACROSSE

E.C. Glass lost 18-5 to Patrick Henry. Cynthia Beasley scored 3 goals and had an assist in the loss for Glass.

 

GIRLS TENNIS

E.C. Glass blanked Heritage 9-0.  With the win, the defending state champion Hilltoppers clinch the Seminole District regular season title.  They're undefeated for the season and 11-0 in the Seminole.

 

GIRLS SOFTBALL

Janelle Zellers threw a five-hitter and struck out 8 as Jefferson Forest won at Liberty 11-3. Zellers also had a big night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a homer and four rbi's.
