Meet Terry Austin, House Candidate for the 19th Dist.

Bedford, VA - In the race for the 19th district House of Delegates seat Republicans have chosen their candidate.

On Tuesday, Terry Austin of Botetourt County won the Republican primary to fill long time Delegate Lacey Putney's seat.

But Austin isn't trying to live up to his republican predecessor. If elected, he said he'll make a name for himself.

He's constantly campaigning, and campaigning hard.

The Buchanan native and small business owner is trying to fill the seat of the longest serving delegate in Virginia history.

"I don't think I can ever begin to replace Lacey or fill Lacey's shoes. I will move forward to try to represent the people of the 19th to the best of my ability" said Austin.

Austin said he's determined to make his own legacy in the 19th.

"I like the hometown environment of Main Street. And I think people in Virginia are moving back to the hometown environment because they appreciate and value that" he said.

The 58 year old, self-proclaimed conservative has served on the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors for 16 years.

In that time he's come to realize three political priorities, "We need jobs in the Commonwealth of Virginia" he said.

"Let's promote higher education. Let's have an educated society" added Austin.

"We have to continue to invest in our infrastructure" he said.

Come November, Austin says he'll be pushing for stronger economic development, as well as increased funding for education, and transportation. And he's hopeful that's the recipe for success.

"We're going to leave no stone unturned, we're going to work hard, and we're going to win by a great margin" he said.

The 19th district is comprised of Botetourt, Bedford and Allegheny Counties. A Democratic challenger for Austin has not yet been chosen.
