Monday Night High School Highlights and Scores:

SOFTBALL:

Rustburg 5, Brookville 0 - Rustburg freshman Megan Richards threw a 2-hitter.  Kelsea Jennings hit a two-run homer in the third to increase the Red Devils' lead to 3-0.  Hailey Lakes added a two-run double in the sixth and Rustburg won it 5-0.

 

BOYS SOCCER:

 E.C. Glass 3, Brookville 2 - E.C. Glass rallied from behind with two goals in the final three minutes to stun Brookville 3-2 in Seminole District action.  After a scoreless first half, Michael Kenny gave Glass a 1-0 lead.  The Bees tied it at 1, then Brookville's Grant Mathery gave the home team its first lead of the game 2-1 with around 27 minutes left.  It stayed 2-1 until Henrik Larsvik scored on a header off Jack Valentine's corner kick to tie the game at 2 with just over three minutes remaining.  It looked like overtimes were ahead, but Chad Hobson scored for the Hilltoppers with less than a minute left to put Glass up 3-2.  The Toppers hold on for the 3-2 win, the victory clinches the Seminole District regular season title and automatic berth in the regionals.  Glass improves to 12-1-and-1 overall, a perfect 10-and-0 in the district.  

E.C. Glass Head Coach Randy Turille said "You know like I said the last five minutes was like I said unbelievable.  You saw it in our guys' eyes.  They just, you know, in their eyes, they wanted it so bad.  And you know they just kept fighting and fighting and fighting.  So again all the credit goes to the guys on the team."

Also in boys soccer, Altavista blanked Appomattox 3-0, James River defeated Bath County 4-1.

 



GIRLS SOCCER:

Girls soccer, Appomattox edged Altavista 3-2 to improve to 6-and-0 in the Dogwood, Patricia Garrett had two goals.  Glass' Brooke Valentine scored four goals in a 9-1 E.C. Glass win over Heritage.

Also, Liberty and Amherst battled to a 3-all tie, Laura Garbarini scored all three goals for Liberty.


BASEBALL:

Appomattox rolled over Gretna 11-1, Dallas Turner broke the Raiders' career home run record with his 17th.  Amherst County stays unbeaten, winning at Rustburg 13-5.
