Pittsylvania Co. School Bus Driver Charged With DUI

Pittsylvania Co., VA - A Pittsylvania County School bus driver has been charged with driving under the influence while driving a school bus.

Linda Langford, 48, had already finished her route for the day when she was approached by a Pittsylvania County Sheriff's deputy.

It's unclear if authorities believe or know whether she had been under the influence during her afternoon route.

Their office has confirmed that Langford had pulled off to the side of Roark Mill Road in Hurt when a deputy stopped to see if she needed help. As he got out of his car, he says Langford drove away, leading to a traffic stop. Authorities say she admitted to having taken prescription medications - including Percocet - and was taken into custody.

They say a toxicology report confirmed she was under the influence and she was charged with DUI on May 3.

Pittsylvania County Superintendent James McDaniel says Langford is no longer working for Pittsylvania County Schools.

Some parents say this kind of incident is very frightening.

"I think that's horrible. I know we have a son that's on the bus in the afternoons and if we found out his bus driver was doing that as well, we'd be really upset about it, " said Angela Gunter.

Sources confirm that Langford is the daughter of Delma Towler, the 83-year-old woman who was shot and killed by an Altavista police officer last September.

A court date for Langford has been set for July 30.
