VA Community Colleges Approve Tuition Hike

Lynchburg, VA - Community colleges have not been spared from wide spread tuition hikes. The Virginia state board for community colleges has voted to increase tuition and other mandatory fees by 4.4%.

It's not a huge amount; it translates to $5.50 more per credit hour. For a full time community college student, they're looking at paying roughly $165 more each year.

But in touch economic times every dollar counts. Students at CVCC in Lynchburg were just happy the increase wasn't any more.

"Looking at other institutions that have been increasing by a much more rapid pace, I don't think 4.5% is not that much" said one student.

Among other Virginia universities, both UVa and Virginia Tech have decided to raise tuition this year as well.
