Roanoke Co., Va. - Once again the national "Click It or Ticket" campaign is underway.
In the Roanoke Valley police and fire officials met up on the Blue Ridge Parkway to help get their point across.
There the groups conducted a multi-agency traffic checkpoint.
One of the big goals this year is to convince more Virginians to start wearing their seat belt.
In Virginia the average is just 78 percent while nationwide usage averages 86 percent.
"The folks at the national Highway Safety Administration would tell you that the seat belt is probably the single most effective driver/passenger safety device that has ever been in a car. Those experts believe that we could substantially cut down the number of fatalities if everybody would buckle up," said Chief Howard Hall with the Roanoke County Police Department.
Increased enforcement will run through June 2nd.
