H.S. Spring Sports Scores and Highlights - Monday

SOFTBALL

Brookville beat Amherst County 7-5 in the first round of the Seminole District Tournament. Both teams had 7 hits and 2 errors. Morgan Bruce was the winning pitcher. She also hit a two-run home run in the 5th inning.

Paige Truxell went 1-3 with an RBI. Abbie Brown was 2-3 with 2 singles. Amherst's Mikayla Cheatham was 2-4.

Also, Jefferson Forest beat Heritage 6-1 and Liberty rolled over E.C. Glass 13-0. Liberty's Cassidy Hensley was the winning pitcher, she pitched four innings and struck out 9. Allyson Crockett hit a solo home run in the 4th for the Lady Minutemen.  

BOYS SOCCER

Liberty beat Amherst County 3-1. The Minutemen advance to face E.C. Glass Wednesday at 5 in the first semifinal at Jefferson Forest High School.  Ryan Rodes, Rucker Shipp and Matt Thompson scored for Liberty, Eric Ascencio scored the lone Amherst County goal on a penalty kick in the final two minutes.

Wednesday's second semifinal at 7 at JF will pit the Cavaliers against Brookville.  Matthew Crider racked up five goals and an assist in JF's 9-1 win while the Bees blanked Rustburg 4-0.

In the Pioneer District, James River shut out Highland 7-0.

In the Dogwood, Chatham beat Altavista 4-1. Noah Milpass had two goals.

 

GIRLS SOCCER

In the Seminole, E.C Glass rolled 10-0 over Heritage. Sims Jennings, Emma Feinman and Kelsey Thompson all had multiple goals.

Liberty beat Rustburg 3-0. Laura Garbarini two goals, Hannah Overstreet 1.

Amherst edged Brookville 3-2. The Lancers will face regular season champ JF in Wednesday's 5 p.m. game at City Stadium.

Dogwood action, Dan River won at Chatham 1-0.

 

BASEBALL

In the Seminole, Heritage won at Rustburg 4-3 and will face Tuesday's E.C. Glass at Jefferson Forest winner in Wednesday's 7:30 semifinal game.  That game was postponed Monday night due to wet field conditions.  

Brookville hammered Liberty 10-0. The Bees will face top seeded Amherst County in Wednesday's 5 o'clock semifinal at Liberty High School.
