Update: Vinton Lockdowns at Schools Lifted, Police Still Looking for Suspect

Update 11:45 a.m.:

Roanoke Co., VA - Roanoke County officials have lifted the lockdowns at William Byrd High School and William Byrd Middle School in Vinton Friday.

Police will continue to stay on campus throughout the day.

They are still searching for the person who they say was involved in an armed robbery a George's Tobacco on Washington Avenue in Vinton, which is close to the schools.

Roanoke Co., VA - Both William Byrd High School and William Byrd Middle School are on lockdown right now because of an armed robbery near the schools.

Roanoke County officers responded to a report of an armed robbery in the 2400 block of Washington Avenue in Vinton at 9:35 a.m. They are still searching for a suspect.

Police say the lockdown was issued as a precaution, and there is no threat to the schools at this time.
