Lynchburg - Hillcats outfielder Robby Hefflinger hit his third homer in two games and Lynchburg beat Southern Division leader Myrtle Beach for the third straight night Wednesday night. The Hillcats scored three in the first, three in the seventh and two in the eighth on their way to the 8-2 victory.
Hefflinger belted his league-leading 14th homer, a 2-run shot, in the first when the Hillcats grabbed a 3-0 lead. Navery Moore allowed just three hits and two runs over seven innings to pick up his fourth straight win.
Lynchburg led only 3-2 until the seventh when it tacked on three more. Matt Lipka's chopper bounced over the shortstop's head, plating Emerson Landoni for the first of three runs in the inning. The Cats added two more in the eighth on Will Skinner's sharp liner down the third base line that plated two runs.
The Hillcats will go for the four-game sweep of Myrtle Beach Thursday night. Even with their sixth straight loss, the Pelicans still own the best record in the Carolina League at 29-and-22, the Northern Division-leading Hillcats are 28-and-22.
