Cavaliers Prepare for NCAA Baseball Opener


Charlottesville - Virginia and Virginia Tech are both hosting NCAA Baseball regionals this weekend.

 The Cavaliers will host Army in the regional opener Friday at 1.  Virginia is 47-and-10, Army 29-and-21 overall.  Virginia Tech takes on Connecticut in the Blacksburg Regional Friday at 5:30, the Hokies are 38-and-20, U-Conn is 40-and-19.

Brian O'Connor, UVA CAVS HEAD COACH, said "They're tough kids that are really fundamental who'll come here ready to play baseball just like they were last year."

Brandon Downes, LEADS UVA IN HITS, HR, RBI, said "We can't wait.  I mean Friday can't come soon enough."

Jared King, UVA SENIOR FIRST BASEMAN, said "Our guys have done a great job all year of really not taking anything for granted and focusing, you know, on the fundamentals.  We knew what kind of club we had and what we could accomplish.  And so you know I think that makes this even sweeter."
