Amherst Scores 8 in Final Inning to Stun Alleghany

Forest - "Bizarre" might be the best way to describe the ending of Friday night's Region 3 championship game between unbeaten Amherst County and Alleghany.

Mountaineers senior pitcher Alex Javins took a 3-hit shutout and 7-0 lead into the final inning. Lancers fans were surely thinking, ok the perfect season is gone but we're still alive, if we were going to lose a game, tonight was the time to do it.  But then O'Connor gave up a few walks and his defense failed him, twice botching would-be double play balls, suddenly the Lancers had some life.

Down 7-4, still no outs, Logan Pingley clubs a bases-loaded shot to deep left, plating two more runs, it's 7-6.

Amherst scores eight runs in the bottom of the seventh, Hunter Floyd drives in the game-winner with the shot down first.

The Lancers win 8-7 and improve to 24-and-0.  They'll host a state quarterfinal game next Tuesday night.
