Former Cavs Back Clifton Richardson Transferring to LU

Lynchburg - The Liberty University football team is picking up a former Virginia Cavalier.  Running back Clifton Richardson is transferring to LU with two years of eligibility and can play this coming season.

The Newport News native was limited to seven games last year with UVa due to injury. Richardson played all 13 games as a true freshman and was a SuperPrep All-American out of Menchville High School.

"We are thrilled to have Clifton in our football program because of his character and his football ability," commented Gill about his newest running back. "He has tremendous power, above average elusiveness and outstanding speed as a running back."

In two seasons, Richardson carried the ball 96 times for 425 yards, scoring two rushing touchdowns. He also had two career receptions (26 yards, one touchdown) and seven career kickoff returns (111 yards).

The four-star rated prospect was a versatile athlete at Menchville, playing quarterback, running back, wide receiver, safety and kick returner.

He was a two-time first-team, All-Peninsula District selection and participated in the 2010 Offense-Defense All-America Bowl game.

He finished his last two seasons of high school football rushing for more than 1,000 yards, spotlighted by his junior year (1,268 yards and 11 touchdowns).
