Lynchburg, VA – The condition of a Lynchburg soldier shot multiple times and wounded in Afghanistan is improving.

In our original reports, doctors were unsure if Kareem Francis, 28, would ever walk again.

His parents say he has regained feeling in his left leg. He is still confined to a wheelchair , but this is a step in the right direction.

Kareem got quite the surprise Tuesday afternoon when President Obama stopped by his hospital room to thank him for his service.

Kareem was transferred from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Maryland to Hunter Holmes McGuire Medical Center in Richmond. He will undergo spine therapy there.

We were unable to interview Kareem's parents Wednesday since they were in Richmond with him. They say they want to thank the community for all their support and prayers.
