PULASKI - The Tunstall Trojans are back in familiar territory. Barry Shelton's group will play for the VHSL Group AA state championship after beating Woodgrove 3-2 Saturday night.
The Trojans will face Sherando at 1 p.m. at Radford University on Sunday.
Tunstall and Woodgrove scored all five runs in the first two innings of the game, and Tunstall held on for a 3-2 victory.
Woodgrove busted out for two runs in the top of the first inning. Back-to-back RBI singles by Hazen Dean and Davis Reagan gave Woodgrove the early lead.
Tunstall cut the lead in half in the first. Daymon Totherow led off with a base hit and scored on Chris Buckner's RBI double. Totherow then provided the game-winning hit in the second inning, a two-run double that gave Tunstall the 3-2 lead it would make stand up.
Alex Wade earned the victory on the mound. Hank Biggs took the loss.
Tunstall earns a berth in its eighth state title game and first since 2011. Tunstall won back-to-back state championships in 2004 and 2005 and also owns crowns in 1994 and 1976.
