Preparations Underway for the Interlocken Festival in Nelson Co.

Nelson Co., VA - Organizers were in Nelson County Thursday planning for the Interlocken Festival, which is less than three months away.

They expect 30,000 people to attend the four-day music festival. The lineup will feature artists like Neil Young & Crazy Horse, Zac Brown, Further and The Black Crows.

Between gas, lodging and food, they're expected to generate a $250,000 per day for the local economy.

When Dave Frey dreams, he dreams big.

"We have had many other little festivals. But this is very big," said Connie Brennan, board of supervisor.

About a year ago, Dave Frey, co-owner of Interlocken LLC, and his business partner, had a dream to organize a lifestyle music festival. That dream drove them to Oak Ridge Farm in Nelson County. They say it beat out other locations in New York, California and North Carolina because of its 'intimate setting.'

"We're just having one band play at a time which is different from a lot of the other festivals," said Frey.

"We're just gearing up, making sure everything looks nice. So, it's gonna be the next few months hitting it hard," said Reagan Holland Thompson with Oak Ridge Farm.

There will be plenty of craft beer, plenty of food, and plenty of room for camping.

It may be your only option since hotels up and down Route 29 are already booked.

"He said, yeah we're completely sold out! Then he goes, we've never been sold out," said Frey."

"This will allow us to keep our tax rate low and continue to provide amenities for visitors and residents alike. So, very excited," said Brennan.

Plenty of pluses, but the small two-lane road poses a major challenge.

"We've spent somewhere in the neighborhood of $60,000 so far on the traffic plan and just working with VDOT to make sure that we have as little an impact on the roads as possible," said Frey.

If it works out, that could mean a longer road ahead.

"We hope to have it for my grandchildren to be going to," said Thompson.

Friday, festival organizers will release the full list of musical artists on its website. A four-day pass costs about $250 and there are no plans to offer one day passes.
