Juneteenth Event Celebrated in Lynchburg

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg's annual Juneteenth celebration was held Sunday at the Hunton-Randolph Community Center.

Around 200 hundred people visited the festival throughout the day.

The event included children's games and praise dances.

Juneteenth is the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States.

One of the goals of Saturday's event was to bridge the gap between church and community.

"It's just a time for us to come together and make people aware of so much that our ancestors have accomplished and it's just a day for us to come together and celebrate as a community," said Kimberly Anderson, Attended Juneteenth Festival.

The festival also included the reading of the Emancipation Proclamation.
