Grants Approved for New SROs in Virginia

Richmond, VA - Dozens of schools in Virginia will finally have their own school resource officers, Governor McDonnell announced Monday.

McDonnell's office says grants to fund the new positions were just approved by the Criminal Justice Services Board.

The new SROs will be hired in 24 localities, including Martinsville, Buena Vista, Pulaski County, Pittsylvania County and Rockbridge County.

Governor McDonnell requested the funding for these positions following the mass shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December 2012.
