James River Association Teaches Homeowners How to Protect River

Posted:

Lynchburg, VA - You can improve the state of the James River even if you don't live on its banks.

The James River Association put on the home certification project seminar Wednesday to show people what they can do at home to protect the James. Homeowners can do things like install rain barrels, pick up pet waste, and monitor fertilizer use.

Organizers say the James River is a resource we often take for granted.

"If you use the river, it's important for it to be clean. If you swim, fish or even just hiking along the it..the James is an important source of drinking water for most of the state. So really important that we keep it clean for those reasons," said Michelle Kokolis.

Participants got a yard flag, discounts at select lawn and garden centers, among other things.
